Description

The Christmas Kettle Coordinator position is a short-term contract position. The successful candidate is responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. Zone locations include shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets. They organize, direct, and supervise the work performed by Christmas Kettle Campaign Workers. They will also ensure adequate staffing is met prior to and during each shift.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below:

  • Provide support in getting Kettles to zone locations prior to staff and/or volunteer's arrival at Campaign onset.
  • Ensure all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient and remind staff/volunteers on proper Kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support and assign (as required) staff and/or volunteers throughout the Campaign.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign volunteers.
  • Will participate in recruitment of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Coordinate the schedule for kettle staff and/or volunteers and respond to emergency absences, etc.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
  • Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets as required.
  • Post campaign; organize retrieval of all equipment/supplies from various kettle locations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position begins November 1, 2024 and concludes January 10, 2025 - no Sunday shifts.
  • This is a temporary position based on 32.5 hours per week.
  • Typical shift will be Monday through Friday 9am-4pm, however, shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. No working hours on Sundays.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Local travel is associated with this position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • A minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service.
  • Money handling experience is an asset.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver's abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
