Job Description:

Sun Life Financial is a leading international financial services organization that provides individuals and corporate customers with a diverse range of protection products including life, disability, health, retirement and wealth accumulation products. Collaborating with plan sponsors, members, consultants and advisors, Sun Life Group Benefits today provides complete benefit coverage to one in every six Canadians.

The Account Executive is responsible for a portfolio of Group Benefits' clients wherein they convert client needs and issues into opportunities to introduce solutions. The solutions brought forth help our clients achieve their business, employment and financial goals.

The Account Executive position will manage approximately $120-$150 million block of group clients. These clients range in size and complexity and are aligned with the advisor community.

Main accountabilities:

  • foster and maintain excellent client and advisor relationships
  • grow the portfolio on a profitable basis and provide overall client support for the organization
  • understand the client's changing needs, provide benefits advice and keep customers informed of changes that impact benefit plans and Sun Life Financial value proposition, products and services
  • provide sound financial management and facilitate the addition of products and services to existing clients that aligns with their goals and needs
  • analyze, present and negotiate annual renewal actions
  • pro-actively manage projects, host and present to clients on a regular and frequent basis to establish strong relationships
  • provide resolution to issues presented by internal stake holders, clients and advisors with respect to the block of business being managed

Competencies:

  • in-depth knowledge of the group benefits industry including concepts, both generic and particular to Sun Life Financial
  • advanced knowledge of group insurance financial management and technical arrangements of plan funding and design (insured, refund, ASO, pooling)
  • strong client relationship management skills and principles, active listening, pro active inquiry and anticipation of broader needs
  • understanding of underwriting processes and profit drivers for group benefits
  • knowledge of benefit management processes, systems, guidelines, capabilities, standards and practices
  • strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • clear communication skills both internally and externally
  • ability to work in partnership with their client team including Service Representatives and other internal stakeholders to collaborate and deliver the best solutions to meet client needs
  • excellent negotiating skills for customer and advisor base
  • highly motivated self-starter with good overall business knowledge
  • strong presentation skills
  • superior organizational skills for managing diverse client portfolio
  • ongoing involvement in professional development and group industry events
  • team-player with strong leadership skills


Experience & Knowledge Required:

  • 5-10 years experience in Group Benefits, ideally in a similar role
  • ability to manage a flexible work schedule
  • completed Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) is considered an asset

Additional Information

  • must have valid drivers licence and be willing to travel daily when required

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
