Innovative Medicines Canada (IMC) is seeking a Director, Pan-Canadian Stakeholder Engagement.
IMC is the national association representing Canada’s innovative pharmaceutical industry. The industry proudly supports over 100,000 high-value jobs, contributes a total of $16 billion to the economy, sponsors the majority of clinical trials in Canada, and invests close to $3 billion in research and development each year. IMC advocates for policies that enable the discovery, development, and delivery of innovative medicines and vaccines to improve the lives of all Canadians. The association and its members are committed to being solutions-oriented partners in Canada’s healthcare system and have contributed over $30 million towards applied health systems research through the Health Research Foundation (HRF). Guided by the Code of Ethical Practices, all members work with governments, private payers, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders in a highly ethical manner.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Strategic Alliances, the Director, Pan-Canadian Stakeholder Engagement works with colleagues and members to ensure an integrated stakeholder relations, communications, and government relations approach. They are a skilled relationship-builder with a proven track record in nurturing relationships, strategic coalitions, and partnerships at the provincial and pan-Canadian level to strengthen access to medicines across the Pan-Canadian landscape. The Director builds relationships, coalitions, and liaises with provincial life sciences organizations, health research foundations, regional patient groups, the business community, and others.
The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate or master’s degree in public policy or other program relevant to the position. They bring at least 7 years of experience in a public affairs or stakeholder engagement capacity and are a self-starter with a strong understanding of the Canadian healthcare system and an effective advocate for the pharmaceutical industry. They are able to develop and execute stakeholder engagement strategies and effectively communicate on behalf of the association on key issues with a high level of diplomacy and tact. With their demonstrated success in growing and maintaining an expansive network, they are highly skilled in maximizing relationships and are able to utilize their connections to obtain early information regarding industry trends and roadblocks. Their political sensitivity, strong attention to detail, flexibility, proven issues management skills, and leadership ability will be essential in meeting the needs of this dynamic and high-performing association.
