The mission of the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute (BHCRI) is to facilitate and foster the best cancer research in Atlantic Canada as an inclusive and collaborative community of patients, caregivers, learners, researchers, and health care providers working together toward better cancer prevention, treatment, survivorship and cures.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Scientific Director,the BHCRI administrator oversees relationships with the BHCRI community, which includes our supporters/donors, patient partners and people with lived and living experience, trainees, researchers and clinical care team members. A key function of this role is interaction with the administration at our associated institutions and especially at Dalhousie, where this position will be located.
The Administrator of the BHCRI liaises with each of its committees to provide support to its members. In this role, the administrator will be central in managing the day-to-day operations of the BHCRI in service of its accountability, communication and growth. More broadly, the administrator will be involved in the implementation of BHCRI's strategic plan and new initiatives, working alongside BHCRI's existing committees and leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain current and accurate records of commitments and expenditures and prepare annual balanced budgets. Maintain accurate records, including accurate and timely filing in our electronic files management system.
  • Complete reporting as required by our sponsoring partners and funded researchers/trainees with assistance from the BHCRI leadership team.
  • Manage communication for the institute, including emails/phone inquiries, website and newsletter management.
  • With assistance from the BHCRI committees, plan BHCRI events and review panels.
  • Schedule and attend meetings, and take minutes when requested. Circulate documentation as required and maintain accurate file management within our existing Sharepoint system. When requested, attend meetings with external groups on behalf of BHCRI and report back to the scientific director and/or management advisory committee.
  • Contribute productively to the mission of the BHCRI.

Note
Hybrid role: The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, such as education or business, plus approximately five years of experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience in financial management, including budgeting, invoicing, reporting and payroll.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage tasks, including strong skills for documentation and process management.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programming including Sharepoint and MS Teams.

Assets
  • Experience with web design, social media, and newsletter preparation.
  • As we are a cancer research institute, candidates with experience in the study, fundraising and/or support of persons experiencing cancer are preferred.
