Job Purpose:

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Social Media Specialist with a passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of the humanitarian sector, international development, and social issues. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in high-quality video and content creation, excellent copywriting skills, and the ability to engage diverse audiences across multiple social media platforms. This role will involve crafting compelling narratives that highlight our mission and work, driving digital engagement, and fostering a positive online community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation & Management:

    • Specifically, manage the French social media platforms, as well as our INSPIRE volunteer abroad social channels

    • Work with the brand team to develop a French strategy and leverage new social media tools, tactics, and platforms to expand the brand.

    • Develop, create, and manage high-quality multimedia content (videos, graphics for Instagram stories) for all social media platforms.

    • Collaborate with various departments to gather and create engaging content that tells the story of our organization's work in the humanitarian sector.

    • Craft compelling, on-brand copy for social media posts, blogs, scripts and other digital content.

    • implement a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with the organization's goals and values.

    • Manage content creation for annual campaigns including but not limited to Giving Tuesday, Honouring Palestine, Black History Month.

    • High attention to detail, aesthetic and visual understanding. Keen ability to use compelling photos, high-quality videos.

    • Ability to stay organized using a content management system, content calendars, like Asana.

  • Brand Voice & Advocacy:

    • Maintain and enhance the organization's brand voice across all digital platforms, ensuring consistency and authenticity.

    • Act as a digital advocate for the organization, engaging with online communities, influencers, and partners to expand our reach and impact.

    • Leverage social media to raise awareness of key social issues and promote the organization's work in the humanitarian and international development sectors.

  • Collaboration & Innovation:

    • Work closely with the marketing, government relations, and fundraising teams to support campaigns and initiatives.

    • Stay up-to-date with the latest digital tools, trends, and best practices in social media, and apply this knowledge to innovate and enhance our digital presence.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Education & Experience:

    • Fluent in French and English, particularly Quebecois French

    • Proficiency in writing in both French and English

    • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, International Development, or a related field.

    • At least 3-5 years of experience in social media management, content creation, or digital marketing, preferably within the humanitarian, non-profit, or international development sectors.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in video production and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, etc.).

    • Strong skills in graphic design and content creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).

    • Excellent copywriting and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and platforms.

    • Familiarity with social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social, etc.) and analytics platforms.

  • Sector Knowledge:

    • A deep understanding of the humanitarian sector, international development, and social issues, with the ability to communicate these complex topics in an accessible and engaging manner.

    • Awareness of the cultural sensitivities and ethical considerations involved in representing marginalized communities and vulnerable populations.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

    • Creativity and innovation in content creation and problem-solving.

    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse audiences.

Additional Considerations:

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working in an international NGO or a similar environment.

    • Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the organization's work (e.g., Arabic).

    • Experience in crisis communication and handling sensitive content.

  • Working Conditions:

    • Occasional travel may be required to document fieldwork or attend events.

    • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate social media engagement during evenings and weekends, as necessary.

Starting Salary:

$60,000.00
