Job Summary
Alumni are critical to UBC's national and international presence and influence, strengthening UBC's brand as a global institution and bringing UBC's message to communities worldwide. Regionally based alumni provide an opportunity for alumni UBC to cultivate networks of engaged alumni and alumni volunteers worldwide who make significant contributions to UBC, to students, to the alumni community, and to the reputation of the University wherever they may live. The Alumni Engagement Manager, works closely with the Associate Director, Alumni Engagement in the development and implementation of an alumni engagement plan for their priority region of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The incumbent also supports the Associate Director to implement the broader regional program as required, advancing alumni UBC's strategic goals through building relationships, enriching the lives of alumni and ensuring ongoing and consistent communication. The optimal goal is the development of a lifelong meaningful relationship between UBC and its alumni.
The incumbent will ensure strategic identification, cultivation and stewardship of relationships with key alumni leaders. This role also includes: leveraging existing alumni and institutional relationships, identifying volunteer opportunities to engage alumni, building connections to respond to alumni interests, collaborating and building relationships across both campuses and organizing special activities and/or events that further such objectives.
Travel could be required.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Director, Alumni Engagement.
Works with staff and faculty members, alumni volunteers, volunteer leadership, alumni and development professionals, students, and on and off-campus community organizations as well as other universities and Canadian Associations. May involve the President's Office, Vice-Presidential Offices, Public Affairs, Government Relations and other senior administrators, as appropriate.
Work Performed
Develops an engagement plan for alumni living in the GTA, in collaboration with alumni UBC colleagues and University partners to further alumni engagement and increase alumni UBC's knowledge of alumni who live in Toronto.
Creates new and fosters existing partnerships with campus partners to leverage opportunities, forge financial collaborations, and identify other synergies to advance shared goals.
Develops and maintains external relationships that contribute to strategic alumni relationship management, including those with professional organizations and community organizations.
Plans and executes a series of high impact events in the GTA that engage the full spectrum of the alumni who live in the region, and contributes to online programs for the whole of the alumni community.
Develops complex event briefing materials, including briefing notes, scripts, etc.
Can be responsible to implement aspects of the broader regional alumni program outside the GTA, as required.
Partners with colleagues to identify and promote alumni participation in existing and expanding volunteer opportunities.
Identifies and manages a pipeline of alumni leaders in the GTA through research and strategic relationship building, with the goal of amplifying UBC's voice (volunteers, advocates and ambassadors for UBC).
Builds relationships with high profile and/or high potential alumni as prospective volunteers. Identifies, researches, cultivate, and recruits, strategic alumni volunteers for the Toronto Leadership Committee.
Contributes content for alumni communication materials such as newsletters, e-mail marketing campaigns, alumni UBC website and other collateral materials.
Maintains accurate alumni profiles and program information in the University's database in a timely, accurate and appropriate manner.
Contributes to collection and reporting of alumni engagement activity to ensure annual alumni engagement goals are met.
Identifies opportunities to connect students with alumni, celebrating student success and leveraging existing student affinity and leadership groups.
Oversees and ensures the timely and accurate transfer of information into the database.
Performs other related duties as required, especially those related to the planning and execution of special events and/or activities.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Given that the incumbent will liaise regularly with senior administration, prominent alumni and significant friends and partners of the university, the Alumni Engagement Manager, is expected to exercise judgment, diplomacy and tact in all interactions. Poor judgement could alienate alumni, damage the university's reputation, as well as negatively impact potential opportunities to engage alumni as ambassadors, volunteers, and donors.
Supervision Received
Reports to Associate Director, Alumni Engagement. Works independently with general direction from the Associate Director. Work is reviewed in terms of soundness of judgement and attainment of objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience at a post-secondary education institution, including significant alumni relations, advancement, fundraising and/or volunteer experience, is preferred.
