Job Summary | The Manager of Public Relations & Advancement, reporting to the Director of Executive and Governance Operations, will help create and maintain a positive image for the College of New Caledonia (CNC). As a member of the Leadership Team, the Manager will increase CNC's visibility, enhance its reputation, improve communication with the community and key stakeholders, and support the college's goals. The Manager will take media requests and schedule interviews as appropriate, foster good relationships with the media, write and edit press releases and social media posts. In consultation with the Director, Executive and Governance Operation and the President, this role will manage all internal and external communications for the Office of the President, including crisis management. The Manager will also develop and lead activities to build donor relationships that support the college's growth and student success. |
Specific Duties | NATURE & SCOPE: • This role leads and manages the Public Relations and Advancement portfolio, aligning with the College's vision, mission, and goals. • In consultation with the Director, Executive and Governance Operation the Manager assists the President with public relations, community engagement, and managing Public Relations effectively. • This role actively engages with the community, industry, donors, alumni, media, and businesses to build and maintain positive relationships, enhancing the College's reputation as a preferred post-secondary destination. • The Manager plays a key role in leading fundraising and alumni relations initiatives. • This position oversees a team of Donor and Alumni Relations Specialists and a Content and Media Relations Officer. • The Manager supports various college-wide initiatives, including strategic enrollment management. • You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners. • You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues. SPECIFIC DUTIES: • Supervises and leads team members by coaching, encouraging dialogue, and providing guidance to resolve work issues. Helps set and meet team goals and monitors performance. • Develops and executes Public Relations and Advancement plans with staff and partners. • Creates and manages strategies for public relations, crisis communications, storytelling, and community engagement. Works with the President and senior leaders to address issues proactively. • Under the direction of the Director, Executive and Governance Operations, manage internal and external communications for the Office of the President, promoting transparency and collaboration. Develops a public relations strategy to support the institution's goals and reputation. • Under the direction of the Director, Executive and Governance Operations supports the President with publications, advocacy materials, and advice on publicity and government relations events. • Builds partnerships with donors, community partners, and College partners to enhance the institution's profile and programs. • Develops a fundraising plan to identify prospects, cultivate donors, and organize fundraising events. • Plans and implements events that connect stakeholders with the college's vision. • In collaboration with the Policy and Planning department, leads policy development for public relations and advancement activities, including media relations, partnerships, and donor relations. • Develops and implements campaign strategies with various stakeholders. • Leads the development and execution of a fundraising plan for major gifts, planned giving, and annual fundraising activities. • Engages alumni to support Strategic Enrolment Management and Marketing (SEMM) goals and improves partnerships and donor relations. • Supports board communications as needed. • Communicates with leadership, the board, ministries, BC Colleges, and other external officials. • Manages the department budget effectively. • Participate in community engagement, celebrations, convocation, and networking opportunities. • Attend public events with the President as needed. • Collaborate with internal and external partners to maintain a strong community presence. • Serves on committees and boards as appropriate or as directed. • Administer the provisions of the collective agreements • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Executive and Governance Operations. |
Skills & Qualifications | • Minimum of a Bachelor's in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or other a relevant field is required. • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in public relations, communications, fundraising, or a related area, preferably within the education or non-profit sector; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. • Experience in areas including but not limited to community engagement strategies, and emergency communication is an asset • Proven experience in the fundraising field required • Fund-Raising certification preferred • Proven ability to plan, schedule and direct employees in a busy, deadline-driven environment in which all team members optimize resources, have an eye for detail, and consistently meet deadlines and project requirements • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills • Proven leadership ability in a unionized setting • Demonstrated community leadership skills and abilities • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse constituents • Experience managing departmental budgets and projects |
