Job Purpose

The Research & Prospect Management Specialist at Bissell, under the guidance of the Manager of Development, has the primary responsibility of driving revenue generation through the development and growth of Bissell Centre's donor base. This role will support the eradication of poverty by leveraging analytical and research skills to provide essential support to Bissell Centre's fundraising efforts. The Specialist will also support the advancement of the Bissell Centre's mission by informing fund development strategy and supporting a team to build strong relationships with donors and achieve fundraising goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Delivery

  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to qualify prospects and assist fundraisers in managing relationships with existing donors
  • Research and identify grant and contract funding opportunities
  • Maintain accurate data, monitor data integrity, and generate reporting
  • Collaborate closely with fundraisers to develop effective donor engagement strategies and to manage portfolios and donor pipelines
  • Make recommendations on engagement strategies and transforming data sets into actionable insights for fundraising teams
  • Attend events and presentations when requested
  • Educate and bring awareness to the issues of poverty and homelessness, and the work Bissell Centre does in the community
  • Other duties as required

General and Administrative

  • Work with the Resource Development Team to develop and implement comprehensive strategies to engage the public and collaborate on organizational initiatives to generate resources for Bissell Centre
  • Share the responsibility of guiding agency tours to students, the public, and donors
  • Participate in Bissell Centre events and act as an ambassador of our mission and vision
  • Maintain detailed records through the donor management software according to Bissell Centre's standards and in compliance with best practices for donor relations
  • Remain current on all legislation and ethical practices pertaining to fundraising
  • Participate in cross organization initiatives including safety walks, events, committees, etc.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings and team meetings

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year in research and prospect management, preferably within fundraising
  • Strong knowledge of research and prospect management best practice and research tools
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Fundraising certifications (CFRE) would be considered an asset


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional skills with computer software, specifically donor databases, is required
  • Sound knowledge of principles, proven methods and strategies of fundraising, donor relations, and communications
  • Confident, enthusiastic attitude towards ability to achieve goals
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze complex information, assess risks, and evaluate opportunities to make informed decisions that align with goals and objectives
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage process, deadlines, and budget while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness, and Edmonton's urban core

Conditions of Work

  • Full-time position—40 hours/week, flexible hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion
  • Hybrid work environment - position works remotely and from office in downtown Edmonton
  • Daytime travel may be required within the greater Edmonton area
  • Working within an office space with participants who are experiencing complex life situations
